Great Things about Frankley School

Frankley school is an amazing school, it has great teachers, can identify kids talents and work on’s. We’re all friends here at frankley school, no one get’s left behind.

One of the best things at Frankley is collaborative learning, we get to choose what tasks we do in our learning, get to choose where we sit every time and classes join together e.g 10.11 67 te kakano (rm 1 & 2).
Another great thing about Frankley is the teachers. They are extremely nice and try and help you the best they can.

I love that we get to control our learning because when everyone does the same thing, it’s easy for some people but hard for others. We can choose the right level of learning for us.

Algebra

"Finally' I sigh in exhilaration. this week in maths we are learning algebra. One of the things i learnt about algebra is that whenever there's and algebra problem, it usually has a pattern you need to figure out. I've really enjoyed algebra and hope we keep doing it next week. Here's a photo of some of the work i'm doing.

Division with remainders BLINK Blog Post

This week for my maths I learnt more about division with remainders with Mrs Mca. Division with remainders is when you have a division problem  that can't be equally divided into what your dividing it by so you divide it by that number but you change it  when it can be divided evenly and you should have something left over which is the remainder. That should be whatever number you took off the number you're dividing. e.g  26+4= 6 r 2

+= Divided by
r= Remainder

The Power Of One Book Review

The power of one is a great story of a English/African boy who is brave, tough and believes. He proves that anyone can be anything and no matter what shape and what size, if you believe, your dreams will come true. This book has a lot of great messages in it.

My Carnival Craft

Over last week and this week Ethan Doell and I started making a model sail boat for out Carnival craft. We have a lot of steps we need to take. We have not yet finished it but are very close. Here are the steps to take. You can make your own boat if you like.
Step 1: Decide what to make
Step 2: Design/draw what your boats going to look like
Step 3: Find and decide what materials you are going to use
Step 4: Start cutting out your base of the boat.
Step 5: Cut the sides for your boat and glue them onto the body
Step 6: Put a bit of your material covering the front inside.
Step 7: Paint your boat whatever colour you want.
Step 8: Poke a skewer through the front bit and glue it in.
Step 9: Cut your sail out of fabric or baking paper and tie on to your mast.
Step 10: Cut a tiny strip of cardboard with a top so it cant fall  through the hole. Cut a small hole in the boat to put the strip of cardboard
By Now it should look something like this.

You can make a trailer or truck if you like, Get Creative!
Hope you enjoyed this post, Can't wait to see your boats!

My life with Diabetes.

Hi, my name is Ethan and I am diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I was diagnosed on the thirtieth of november 2009 at age 2. I thought at first it would be hard but with all the support I have had from then till now it has been a bit of an adventure. I got diagnosed while my Mum and Dad were in Fiji. I was at home with my sister and my grandma. It was quite late and I was screaming and crying and throwing up all the time. I was also drinking heaps of water. My Grandma had been a nurse so she took me to the hospital and got a babysitter for my sister Isabelle.

When Mum and Dad found out I had Diabetes, they booked the first flight back to Auckland and then one to New Plymouth.

I didn’t really understand what was going on apart from the fact that it was about me.
I can remember one thing when I was in the children's ward. I was stuck in there pretty much all day just watching TV. Hooray! Everyone wants to watch TV, right? Not me. I prefer building with lego and drawing. Luckily I was occasionally allowed to build lego or draw but not very often.

The first diabetic I met was a boy named Cody. He had been diagnosed with diabetes for quite a while. He is one of my best friends.

Some of you are probably wondering ‘What is diabetes?’
Diabetes is when the bodies immune system thinks that the beta cells in the pancreas are germs and the immune system destroys the beta cells. The pancreas and beta cells produce Insulin but without the beta cells the pancreas cannot produce insulin. Whenever you eat most foods they break down into different parts. One of those parts is called Glucose. Most people can just eat food with glucose and their pancreas will produce the insulin for them. The glucose and insulin will produce energy. Then you can go run around or something and burn that energy.

Quite a lot of people in the world think that just because we are diagnosed with diabetes, we can’t do things that normal people can do. That’s not true because I ski and surf and do extreme sports. My everyday life is just like everyone else’s. I got to school, play sport, eat food and all that kinda stuff. I’ll give you a small list of sports I have done and do. Mountain biking, Rugby, Cricket, swimming, skiing, Tai kwon do, tramping and surfing.

Sometimes testing and carb counting can mess up my day a bit, but I can still have fun with everyone. Sometimes I have to leave what i’m doing to go test but I can always come back. This all leads up to one thing: Diabetes will not stop us!
